Explosion in the City
Huge Steam pipe Blast Kills One in NYC

I have been growing more and more frantic as the evening has been going on, because I never heard anything from The Husband, and Grand Central is right where he goes through on the subway. I thought at the very least he was trapped in the subway, and at worst, well...

It got later and later and later and I couldn't get through to his cell phone.

And then finally he called...

He's been doing surgery on a cat and didn't even know anything had happened in the city.

*gasp of relief*

But how he's going to get home tonight, and when, and what we're going to do about diner is a mystery to me.

Gratitude List:

1. He's safe.

2. The explosion wasn't terrorism.

3. More people weren't hurt.

4. He called before I did something like start calling hospitals.

5. I can relax now.

6. And the rest of the day was OK too except for getting drenched in the rain this morning.

EDITED TO ADD: I just got off the phone with The Kid, and she was in Manhatten today too! I am sooooo glad I didn't know that before I spoke to her! But she was out before the explosion, and didn't go through Grand Central.

God almighty, what a crazy day you guys have had between that and the tornado in Islip. Never a dull moment down there.

Glad you and you family are safe! :)

Thanks, I was getting pretty freaked out. And on top of everything else there were lots of service problems on the subways due to flooding. In fact, thats why my daughter _didn't_ go through Grand Central on her way home, she took the E instead even though it was more out of the way, because of flooding on the 7.

But my husband is almost home, he called me not to long ago. Hopefully he'll be able to get something for us to eat when he goes through Flushing.

I never did ask hm how the cat they were opreating on was doing...
